Brake Service
Brake Service You Can Trust
Your brakes are your vehicle’s most critical safety system — and at Miller Place Auto Repair, we take that responsibility seriously. Whether you’re hearing a squeal, feeling vibration, or it’s just time for routine maintenance, we provide thorough brake inspections and high-quality repairs you can count on.
We always recommend replacing brake pads and rotors as a set,
and here’s why:
Modern rotors are designed to be replaced, not resurfaced. Installing new pads on old rotors can result in uneven contact surfaces, leading to noise, premature wear, or reduced braking performance. Replacing both components ensures proper bedding, which is essential for safe and quiet operation.

What’s included in a high-quality brake job?
-
Full inspection of pads, rotors, calipers, and hardware
-
Replacement of pads and rotors with premium components
-
Cleaning and lubrication of caliper slide pins and contact points
-
Inspection or replacement of hardware and anti-rattle clips
-
Brake fluid inspection including electronic fluid condition test
-
Post-service test drive and initial bedding procedure
What Is the Bedding Process?
The bedding-in process (also called “burnishing”) is the controlled wear-in of new brake pads and rotors to create an even transfer layer of friction material. This transfer layer helps the pads and rotors work together efficiently and consistently under braking pressure.

-
A proper bed-in process:
• Minimizes brake noise
• Prevents uneven pad wear
• Reduces the risk of rotor warping or glazing
• Improves stopping power and brake feel
After installation, we perform a road test to initiate the bedding process with a series of controlled stops to properly mate the surfaces. We may also provide you with follow-up steps to complete the process depending on your driving style and vehicle.
While we typically replace pads and rotors together, we understand that some situations may justify exceptions — such as low-mileage vehicles with newer rotors in excellent condition. In those cases, we carefully inspect the rotors for wear, thickness, and runout before proceeding.
